Music Magic

Earlier this month, the Consuela Team attended a Foster the People show in Austin at one of the city’s great outdoor venues, The Backyard.  We had a blast.  The music was great, and so was the show.  We are in a really exciting time because we are moving to a new office/studio in the heart of downtown with a retail store too!  All of the renovations are underway, and we have been loving thinking up creative decorative designs for our new digs.

The lighting and stage show at Foster the People was completely inspirational. They had an awesome lighted sun that had moving line drawings for the face image.  The line art was really simple but modern.  Loved it!  Check our You Tube video to see and feel the incredible energy this show was able to capture.

After seeing the show we got to brainstorming about how we could make our office and retail space similar to a theater or stage show, where everything was easily moveable and changeable so that we can make new looks as our moods, show themes, design colors change throughout the seasons.  We are working with Brian Chilton, a great local architectural element builder/furniture designer extraodinairre to make our vision come to life.  We’ll keep you posted as we progress, and hope to see you at our grand opening in the fall!

Henna Love

This week, men and women all over Dallas Market are celebrating their inner Consuela by adorning themselves with Henna tattoos in our showroom.

This sacred artform has been used for rituals across many cultures for centuries. We want our visitors to come experience Consuela, be a part of our atmosphere and take away a piece of our culture.  Celebrate the collective wisdom, energy, and reverence through this art.

Our amazing Henna artist, Karen, will be in our showroom again today from noon to 6 pm.  Check our Henna Love Pinterest board to get inspiration and ideas for what Henna art you will choose and see pictures from yesterday’s Henna party.  We hope you stop by and vibe with our tribe!

Just Breathe.

“Laugh Easy” is an essential part of our Consuela covenant.  We’ve taken some lessons from one of our collective favy books—Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose by Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.  It is a must read for all newbies in our company and we strongly advocate it for anyone thinking about the “soul” of a company.  One of the biggest teachings we’ve integrated is the belief that if we get the culture of our company right…everything else will happen naturally as a result of happy people doing things they love.

We want to build relationships where we treat each other like family.  We make it a point to take time to play together (after working very hard). For example, one day we took a boat out and cruised Town Lake in Austin for a couple hours at the end of a busy week.  With delicious snacks and libations on hand, Clay served as our Captain O’ Captain and eased us down the river at the ripping speed of 1mph. We shared, joked, laughed, and breathed in the springtime air together.

As Hsieh writes so poignantly in his book, the bottom line is “about teamwork and having fun and not taking ourselves too seriously.  It’s about growth, both personal and professional.  It’s about achieving the impossible.  It’s about openness, taking risks, and not being afraid to make mistakes. But most of all, it’s about having faith that if we do the right thing for each other, then in the long run we will succeed and build something great.”

Enjoy the journey of creating your culture!

Be Consuela!

Consuela was fashioned in that magical moment of possibility.  Reflecting on the beaches of a Cozumel vacation, potentiality splashed in sun reflected waves lapping through toes warming in the soft sand. A deep sigh of relief exhaling dreams of living with freedom and peace—released back into the great body of water—and the idea for Consuela was born.

We all know and get these miraculous moments that unfold in our lives. Frequent or not, they sweep us off of our feet to deliver us reprieve and to remind us that we are interconnected and alive to birth an amazing story.  What do your moments look like? Maybe noticing the first electric lime green bud barely peeking out from a bare winter tree branch…or a song that carries the exact right words or notes to bring alive what you are feeling…a meal that bursts with flavorful intonations that make your heart savor happiness…a baby’s flawless skin and smile…laying in your pajamas on a Saturday morning with no agenda…whatever your magical moments look like—we honor them.

Consuela thrives on these magical moments.  In fact, we even coined our active phrase…

…to remember that this life is indeed a verb, not a static noun.  We are in the action of unfolding what is possible in our lives.  More or less, we want Consuela to be more than just our “company”—for us it is the larger “Us”—a movement, a vibe, a synergy of living and loving connected by care and inspiration.  Through it, we’ll experience the highs and lows and in betweens together…with the goal of living a positive and joyful life.  Authenticity is what you can expect from our blogosphere.

Our greatest desire is to create a space where you can be embraced EXACTLY where you are—knowing that you deserve to dream for yourself new possibilities.

We’re hoping you decide to voyage along with us. Next week we will be giving you the goods on how we want to unfurl this fun, with the caveat that this dream is unfolding with “Us” in a dynamic conversation, so we know it will take on a life of its own as we move through the living layers together.

As we say, Viva Consuela! (Live in Possibility)

Consuela Culture Club // The Whiskey Sisters

On March 5th, we had our first ever Consuela Culture Club event.  Many more to follow! Watch Facebook and the blog for future info and invites!

We launched with a warm and conversational evening of wine and food at Botticelli’s in Austin, followed by soulful music at the opening act of Austin women front-led band The Whiskey Sisters performing at the Continental Club.  Joy was the theme of the evening and in that spirit, about 20 women came to celebrate the fun.
