What is Glamtrepreneur?
At Glamtrepreneur, we have programs and initiatives that educate girls on what it means to take an awesome idea, and turn it into a business of their own.
How did you get the idea to start the organization?
Through speaking with other female entrepreneurs, I realized that most of them told a similar story: they started their business through chance or on accident. It never seemed to be something they thought about when they were younger. I wanted to change this. I want girls to grow up knowing that if they have an idea then they can turn it into a business and a livelihood.
Why did you start Glamtrepreneur and what motivates you?
I really started Glamtrepreneur to teach girls that it is up to them to make the changes they want to see. I know it sounds corny, but most of us have things we want to do, but feel like we don’t have the resources, knowledge or connections to make it happen. It is important that younger girls realize that if they see a void in an industry or something they can do generally better, it is their responsibility to make it happen. They can’t just pass it off to someone else. The hope that we are giving our participants some knowledge about business at young age is really what keeps me motivated.
What has been the most challenging part of the experience so far?
The most challenging part is trying to figure out what to do next. This past summer, we launched our “BizGlam workshops”, which are one-off activity sessions that teach girls about business plan writing. It was a really awesome experience, but now I am trying to figure out how to grow that. One day I want Glamtrepreneur to be my full time, but it is hard to know out how to get there.
What has been the most rewarding part of the experience so far?
The most rewarding part of the experience so far has been seeing the girls get excited about their “businesses”. It is cool when they have fun coming up with their company’s name or figuring out who will be buying their products. Seeing that “aha moment” happen is definitely awesome!
